I used to be an avid Pandora user. The concept was sound and integration was neat. However, I grew sick of their repetitious playlists and band selection. More often than not, the same songs from the same bands would play and soon a concept that I thought was neat and innovative was lame and frustrating.

Cue @petersonwally. He initially introduced me to Last.fm and got me hooked. And by hooked I mean I’m either listening to Last.fm all day or scrobbling all my iTunes music to Last.fm. So, pretty much all my listening habits are logged to Last.fm – minus the CDs I listen to in my car. Yes, I still use my CD player and No, I don’t have an auxiliary port to plug my iPod into.

FEATURES
Last.fm dominates when it comes to song selection and band variety. I rarely hear the same songs repeated and I’m ALWAYS discovering new bands that broaden my taste in music.

The downloadable scrobble program only enhances your listening experience. The standalone program allows the user to interact with Last.fm without visiting the website, much like how Tweetdeck interacts with Twitter and Facebook. After linking the program up to your music players, it will scrobble any song you play and add it to your Last.fm library. It even allows you to choose which songs you love. How sick is that?

Furthermore, Last.fm just has stronger community features than Pandora. See the songs your friends have recently listened to or what their favorite songs are. Find other people with the same taste in music and track their listening habbits. Maybe you’ll find your new favorite band.

CONCLUSION
Ultimately, Last.fm Trumps Pandora in every aspect of online streaming radio. Additionally, Last.fm allow advertisers the ability to reskin specific pages. I’m not sure if advertisers can choose which band pages to reskin or if it’s just an umbrella buy. However, if specific companies could choose which band pages to reskin and target specific demographics, that might just mean a lot more money for Last.fm.
